Bioscud: AI e sensoristica avanzata per la rigenerazione degli edifici produttivi.

Developed by NexLogic Group and Elt Group in collaboration with Sapiens Analytics and Intellìge, Bioscud combines Artificial Intelligence and advanced sensor technologies to improve workplace wellbeing.

Co-funded through the IRISS programme promoted by SMACT Competence Center, the Bioscud project has developed an intelligent system designed to create safer, more inclusive and sustainable working environments.

The Bioscud AI platform monitors environmental conditions and workers' physiological indicators in real time, supporting the early identification of potentially critical situations and contributing to improved physical and psychological wellbeing.

Brescia, 18 December 2024 – Improving employees' quality of life and physical and psychological wellbeing through Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT): these are the objectives behind Bioscud, an innovative research and development project developed by NexLogic Group, a Brescia-based company specialising in construction, building design and technological solutions, and Elt Group, a company based in Bassano del Grappa specialising in building automation systems for high-performance buildings.

The collaboration between the two companies led to the development of BIOSCUD, which secured €394,000 in co-funding under the IRISS programme promoted by SMACT Competence Center.

Bioscud: Artificial Intelligence for Healthier and Safer Workplaces

The project addresses the challenges of Industry 5.0, which promotes the use of advanced technologies to create safer, more inclusive and sustainable workplaces, helping businesses manage occupational risks, protect workers' health and reduce environmental impact.

To achieve these objectives, Sapiens Analytics, a partner within the SMACT innovation ecosystem, developed an advanced Artificial Intelligence platform integrating an innovative system for monitoring and analysing key physiological parameters, individual activities and workplace environmental conditions.

The solution incorporates IoT technologies and advanced environmental and wearable sensors developed by Intellìge, a Sapiens Analytics subsidiary specialising in indoor air quality analysis.

Through the development of the BIOSCUD AI platform, the system continuously monitors indoor air quality and workers' physiological indicators, with the aim of identifying early signs of potentially adverse health conditions and promptly highlighting critical situations.

By correlating environmental and physiological data, the platform supports a more proactive approach to occupational health and safety, enabling organisations to better understand workplace conditions and identify opportunities for targeted preventive action.

AI, IoT and Wearable Sensors for Real-Time Workplace Monitoring

The Bioscud platform was developed in collaboration with the Occupational Medicine and Industrial Hygiene Unit of the Department of Medical and Surgical Specialties, Radiological Sciences and Public Health at the University of Brescia.

The collaboration focuses on assessing occupational risks associated with hazardous chemical and physical agents and promoting workers' overall wellbeing, in accordance with the principles of Total Worker Health®.

The project is structured around four operational stages:

  1. Environmental and physiological data collection: integrated environmental sensors and wearable devices collect information about workplace conditions and workers' physiological parameters.

  2. AI-powered data analysis: neural networks and machine learning algorithms process the collected information to identify relevant patterns, correlations and potentially critical conditions.

  3. Indoor environmental quality improvement: the platform provides strategies to improve and regenerate indoor air quality, supporting healthier and more sustainable working environments.

  4. Worker wellbeing recommendations: data-driven insights and best practices help organisations manage occupational health risks and promote employee wellbeing.

The resulting digital platform enables real-time monitoring of indoor air quality, noise levels, thermal stress and individual physiological indicators, providing detailed information to support targeted interventions.

These capabilities allow business managers to monitor and manage both environmental conditions and relevant physiological parameters, contributing to a more informed and preventive approach to workplace health management.

Regenerative Workplaces and Biophilic Design

Beyond technological innovation, Bioscud also explores the relationship between the built environment and human wellbeing, integrating the principles of biophilic design and regenerative building design.

The project aims to support the development of industrial workplaces that not only minimise environmental and occupational risks but also actively promote healthier and more comfortable conditions for employees.

Mirko Taglietti, CEO of NexLogic Group, commented:

"Bioscud has been a success. It has improved employees' physical and psychological wellbeing, reduced absenteeism and increased productivity. It has also contributed to the creation of regenerative environments inspired by biophilic design, which support concentration and reduce stress.

After 15 years of studying the relationship between people and indoor environments through NexLogic Group's Biosphera project, and thanks to our successful collaboration with Elt Group on all installation-related aspects, we have developed Bioscud.

The project brings this expertise into industrial production environments, focusing on human wellbeing through the concept of biophilia and a regenerative design approach that combines process analysis, technology, design and medicine."

Bioscud therefore represents an example of how Artificial Intelligence, advanced sensor technologies and human-centred building design can work together to support healthier, more efficient and sustainable industrial environments.
